The state media reported an increase in number of fishing boats in Bac Lieu province in August, currently, there are 722 fishing ships in the local waters. Fishermen return to fishing offshore when oil price declines and seafood price increases.

According to some ship owners, they can have a profit of VND30 to 50 million (USD1,870 to 3,125) for each 10-15 day journey, mostly they use double-trawlers.

The provincial department of fisheries said total fish catching production of  Bac Lieu in July reached 46,000 tons, as 63% of the year plan. Local fishermen caught in total 7,200 tons of shrimp, represented 60% of this year target, marking an increase of 6% over last July.
