Australian Abalone Spreading Out to Asia
(Thefishsite, July 23, 2008)

AUSTRALIA - Australian grown abalone are destined to end up on Asian plates, fuelling the expansion of commercial fish farming, a company says.

Adelaide-based Destiny Abalone Group (DAG) said on Wednesday it is expanding its South Australian land-based operations to meet growing demand in the Asian market, reports The Age.

According to the News Agency, the move aims to satisfy the surging Asian appetite for its abalone, the company said it will base its abalone grow-out ship, the MV Destiny Queen, in Asian waters.
“This is an exciting and natural progression in the development of our company,” DAG executive chairman, Peter Wahlqvist, said in a statement.

“It provides us with even greater opportunities to keep this Australian initiative at the forefront of abalone production in the world.”
