Over the past 10 years, Vietnam seafood industry basically solved issued related to quality and food safety of seafood products, meeting requirements of international integration course, said the National Fisheries Quality Assurance and Veterinary Directorate (NAFIQAVED).
Nguyen Tu Cuong, Director of NAFIQAVED said 44 out of 64 provinces and cities have established agencies with qualified and expertise staff responsible for controlling and managing quality, hygiene and food safety and fisheries veterinary.
In 2005, Vietnam seafood industry implemented widely the programme on controlling and monitoring harmful chemical residues in aquaculture. Besides, NAFIQAVED also carried out other controlling measures such as controlling imported seeds, fisheries quarantine, etc.
The number of Vietnam seafood enterprises satisfying requirements in seafood exports and permitted to export to strict markets is on the rise.
To gain better results in controlling quality, hygiene and food safety in seafood industry, in 2006 NAFIQAVED will continue to perfect structures, setting up quality management and fisheries veterinary agencies in every province and city nationwide.
In addition, NAFIQAVED will also open training courses to improve professional skills in the field. In the first quarter of 2006, it plans to update its website to provide information and timely support and solve problems regarding barriers on hygiene and food safety. |
