Using seaweed and tilapia to clean shrimp farms

Research Institute for Aquaculture No1 has been successful in using experimentally tilapia and seaweed to treat waste water from shrimp farms.

The experiment has been conducted in Hoa Hiep Nam commune, Dong Hoa district, Phu Yen province. Researchers set up waste water treatment system using biological agents such as tilapia and seaweed. Remaining feed in the shrimp farms are consumed by these species.  Any chemical is not used in the process and waste water is not let out, limit negative impact to surrounding environment. 

 

The project has been conducted for 3 years by Phu Yen Union of Science and Technology Association with the support of Global Environment Facility and Phu Yen Science and Technology Service. (TVH)
