Kien Giang authority said they could not control the outbreak number of fishing boats inshore. Currently there are more than 2,000 fishing boats, including about 1,000 newly added in recent months.
Local fishermen have changed from fishing offshore to inshore because they could not afford the hiking fuel costs, the state media reported. The provincial authority said the increasing number of fishing boats inshore is troublesome for relevant governing agencies.
It also said environment pollution in area close to the coastline will be destructive to the life of many valuable species, including blue crab (ghẹ xanh), shrimp (tôm tích), scallop (ṣ huyết) and fish.
Fishery resource in the north of Phu Quoc, Nam Du, and Ba Lua islands is devastating when local people use many destructive means (including explosive chemicals) for fishing. Massive deaths of shrimp and many marine species and destruction of the coral reef have been reported in many state media, but the government has not found any effective measure to improve the situation.
